A management retreat your team talks about for years
Designed and facilitated for you on the German coast or in Hamburg: a clear structure, real decisions and time outdoors. You arrive with a question. You leave with a plan your team wrote itself.
Three things every retreat delivers
Decisions, written downThe two or three calls your team has been circling for months, made and owned.
Working agreements in your own wordsHow you meet, decide and communicate, agreed by the people who have to live with it.
A team that knows each other betterWalks, meals and evenings that do what no video call can.
After the retreat your team can move right away
Every retreat we design ends on the wall: decisions, owners and next steps, photographed and summarised within a few days. The setting makes the conversations easier. The structure makes them count.
- Three to five decisions the team made together, each with an owner and a first step.
- Working agreements for meetings, priorities and communication, in the team's own language.
- A shared picture of where you stand and what matters in the next six months.
- A date for the first follow-up, so the retreat keeps working after everyone is back at the desk.
A management retreat with sea air, structure and a facilitator
Teams think differently with a horizon in front of them. We keep the working blocks short and sharp, and we move the thinking outside wherever it helps.
Three retreat formats, built around your question
Each format has a proven arc. The content, the pace and the share of outdoor time are set with you in the briefing.
Strategy retreat
Two days for a leadership team that needs direction: where we play, what we stop, the three priorities for the next two quarters and who owns them. Works well with OKRs or your own planning rhythm.
Leadership team retreat
One to two days for a management team that works across sites or has recently changed. How we decide, how we escalate, how we back each other up in front of the organisation.
Team retreat
An afternoon to two days for a whole team, including the sceptics. Connect through simple structured activities, explore how each person likes to work and communicate, commit to practical improvements.
Leadership retreat Germany: Baltic Sea, North Sea or Hamburg
Three settings, all reachable from Hamburg Airport by car or train, so a team from London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen or Munich meets in the middle.
Baltic Sea
Sheltered bays, long beaches and small seaside towns from the Lübeck Bay to Fehmarn, Rügen and Usedom. Calm water, wide skies and good hotels with meeting space a few steps from the sand.
Beach walksSailing optionsQuiet in spring and autumnNorth Sea
Dykes, tides and the open horizon of the Wadden Sea coast and the islands. The weather is part of the experience; the conversations on the dyke are the ones people remember.

The city option: a retreat by the Elbe or the Alster with the airport thirty minutes away. Working blocks in a quiet venue, walks along the river, and an evening in one of Europe’s great port cities.
Easy to reachOne-day retreatsWater on every sideConcept, venue and facilitation from one hand
You bring the question and the people. We design the arc, propose the setting, coordinate the details with the venue and run the days. You take part instead of running the show.
If you already have a venue, we come to you. Many of our retreats take place in hotels the client chose; the design and the facilitation stay the same.
Leadership offsite facilitatorBriefing call
Thirty minutes. What should be different after the retreat, who is in the room, how much outdoors suits the group.
Setting and arc
Two or three venue options that fit the group and the season, plus a day-by-day arc with the working blocks and the outdoor parts.
The retreat
Facilitated working blocks, walking conversations, decisions captured on the wall. Evenings stay free for the team.
Follow-up
A clean summary within a few days and, if you like, a short online check-in four to six weeks later.
A two-day management retreat, step by step
A typical arc for a leadership team of eight to twenty people. Every retreat is adjusted in the briefing.
Arrive and connect
Lunch, a walk in pairs with one question each, then the first working block: where do we stand, honestly.
Decide what matters
The afternoon of day one: priorities for the next six months, what we stop doing, open issues on the table.
Agree how we work
Morning of day two, often outdoors: how we meet, decide, escalate and communicate. Written as agreements, owned by the team.
Commit and close
Owners, first steps, the follow-up date, and a round on what each person takes home. Done by mid-afternoon.

Management retreat questions, answered
What is a management retreat, and how is it different from an offsite?
A management retreat takes a leadership or management team out of its daily environment for one to three days, with time to think, decide and reconnect. An offsite is often a single working day; a retreat adds the setting, time outdoors and the evening conversations that make decisions stick. We design and facilitate both.
Where do you run management retreats?
On the German Baltic Sea coast, on the North Sea coast and in Hamburg, all reachable from Hamburg Airport by car or train. We also come to a venue you have already chosen, in Germany or elsewhere in Europe.
Do you arrange the venue as well?
Yes. We propose two or three settings that fit your group, your budget and the time of year, and we coordinate rooms, meals and the outdoor part with the venue. You stay in control of the final choice and the booking.
How much of the retreat happens outdoors?
As much as suits your team. Walking conversations on the beach, a planning session on a terrace or a short hike between two working blocks all work well. The decisions are captured indoors, on the wall, so nothing gets lost in the wind.
What does the team take home?
A short set of decisions and working agreements written in the team's own words, an owner and a next step for each, and a plan for the first follow-up. We send a clean summary within a few days of the retreat.
Can a retreat work with a team that is sceptical about team building?
Yes, and these are often the best retreats. We work with clear structure, practical language such as retrospectives and working agreements, and activities with a visible purpose. Everyone decides for themselves how much they share.
How far ahead should we plan?
Two to three months is comfortable for a retreat on the coast; summer dates and larger groups fill earlier. For a venue you have already booked, a briefing call four to six weeks before the retreat is enough.
Joern Steinz
Joern has facilitated more than 1.000 workshops since 2014, from strategy offsites for leadership teams to team days for people who would rather be coding. Before founding SkillDay he worked as a consultant at Accenture and in corporate development at XING and freenet; he holds an MBA from EADA Business School Barcelona.
He lives in Hamburg, knows the coast on both sides, and runs retreats in English and German. SkillDay is a network of around six trainers and facilitators, so larger groups get a second facilitator.
