Microsoft 365 Copilot updates in November 2026: 11 changes and what to try first

By Jörn Steinz, founder of SkillDay · 7 November 2026 · 7 min read

Your project update is due in an hour. The information sits in meeting notes, emails and the project plan. How much of that work can the latest Microsoft 365 Copilot updates take off your hands? It depends on how fast you turn its draft into an update you’d actually send.

The short version

  • Start with one weekly task, such as your project update. Let Copilot pull together what changed, what’s at risk and what needs a decision.
  • Count your review time. Check the draft against the sources. That is the real cost.
  • Saves time two weeks running? Then it’s a candidate for automation.

Below are the 11 Microsoft 365 Copilot updates worth trying across Copilot Chat, Cowork, Outlook and Planner, each with one concrete thing to test. Microsoft releases changes in waves, so not everything arrives at the same time.

Before you try the Microsoft 365 Copilot updates: check three things

  1. Licence. Most features need a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, not just the free Copilot Chat.
  2. Rollout and Frontier. Some features reach the Frontier early-access programme first. Ask IT what is switched on in your organisation.
  3. Credits. Cowork and Code use Copilot Credits. Agree a budget before you automate.

Find and use the right tool in Copilot Chat

01Copilot Chat

Agents, skills and connectors now live in one place

Open Plugins in the Copilot app. It replaces the old Agents entry and collects the agents, skills and connectors your organisation makes available.

Try this: If you prepare a lot of client meetings, check whether a meeting-preparation skill already exists and adapt it instead of writing your own.

02Copilot Chat

Call an agent or skill straight from your prompt

Where the shortcuts are switched on, type / to pick an agent or @ to add a skill. A skill stores instructions your team uses again and again.

Try this: Turn your client-briefing checklist into a skill, so every briefing covers the same points.

03Copilot Chat (web)

Compare a second answer or another model

Open the menu below a response and choose Try again or Switch model, where available.

Try this: Give both answers the same test: can you trace every important claim back to a source?

Keep project context together

04Cowork

Projects keep your recurring work in one place

A Project holds related tasks, files and instructions, so you stop rebuilding context every time. Projects are personal.

Try this: For your weekly status report, add the latest plan and your agreed reporting format. Then ask Copilot what changed since last week and where a decision is needed.

05Copilot app

Workspaces give the team one shared source

Workspaces replace Notebooks in the updated Copilot experience and are built for sharing. You can now also create and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files inside a Workspace.

Try this: A workshop team keeps the client brief, agenda and decisions in one Workspace, so everyone works from the same material.

Automate a routine or prototype a tool

06Cowork

Automations run recurring tasks for you

An Automation runs a Cowork task on a schedule or when a supported event occurs. Cowork runs on Copilot Credits, so usage is billed on top of your licence.

Try this: Schedule a weekly morning draft of your project update. Review the output and check credit usage before you increase the frequency.

07Copilot Code · Frontier preview

Build a small app by describing it

The new Code tab turns a plain-language description into a working tool, such as a tracker, form or dashboard. It is a Frontier preview for now.

Try this: Describe a dashboard that groups open actions by owner and due date. Start with sample data and check the calculations before you share it.

Spend less time sorting, scheduling and following up

08Copilot mobile app

Record, transcribe and summarise on the go

The mobile app turns an audio recording into a transcript and summary.

Try this: After a site visit, dictate your own debrief and ask Copilot for decisions and next steps. Recording other people? Get their agreement first and follow your organisation’s policy.

09Outlook

Sort email in plain language

Copilot can flag, categorise, move or archive messages for you.

Try this: First ask it to list the messages that match your criteria. Check the list, then ask it to apply the action.

10Classic Outlook for Windows

Schedule meetings from Copilot Chat

Where enabled, Copilot finds a time, helps book a room and prepares the invitation.

Try this: Ask for two 30-minute slots and a three-point agenda, and review both before anything goes out.

11Planner

Planner Agent works in basic plans too

Planner Agent now covers group-based basic plans for licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot users, not just premium plans. It drafts status reports and helps execute tasks.

Try this: Ask which tasks are overdue, who owns them and what needs a decision this week. Check the answer against the plan before you change owners or dates.

Test the Microsoft 365 Copilot updates for two weeks before you automate

Copilot only pays off when the time you save is bigger than the time you spend checking. A simple test tells you within two weeks.

  1. 1

    Set your baseline

Time one update with your usual method, from finding the source files to a version you can send.

  2. 2

    Repeat with Copilot

Use the prompt below for your next two updates. Count the time for gathering files, prompting, checking sources and editing.

  3. 3

    Compare time and quality

Does the draft capture the key decisions, risks, owners and due dates? If it holds up and saves time twice, reuse the prompt. If the inputs and format repeat every week, schedule the draft in Cowork and keep a review step before it goes out.

Copy-and-paste prompt

Using [project plan] and [this week’s meeting notes], draft a status update for [audience] in under 150 words. Use three headings: What changed, What’s at risk, and Decisions needed. Link to the source for each risk and decision. Include an owner and due date where the sources name one. Mark missing or conflicting details as “to confirm”.

What is that worth to a team?

If eight project leads each save 15 minutes a week after review, that’s two hours back every week, or around 90 hours over a working year. Use the time you actually measure, not the time you hope for, to decide whether to roll out the workflow.

Most of those minutes hide in routine: status updates, inbox sorting, meeting prep. If meetings eat most of your team’s week, our meeting training pairs well with Copilot. For a broader reset of priorities, see our time management training.

FAQ: Microsoft 365 Copilot updates

What are the most useful Microsoft 365 Copilot updates in November 2026?

For everyday work: Plugins as one home for agents and skills, Projects and Workspaces to keep context together, Cowork Automations for recurring tasks, and plain-language email triage in Outlook. Start with the one that saves you time every week.

Why can’t I see these features yet?

Microsoft rolls Copilot features out gradually. Availability depends on your licence, your organisation’s settings, your platform and whether your company takes part in the Frontier programme. Your IT team can tell you what is switched on.

Do Cowork Automations cost extra?

Cowork runs on Copilot Credits, which are billed on top of the Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. Check credit usage after the first runs before you schedule a task more often.

What is the difference between Projects and Workspaces?

Projects are personal: they keep your own recurring work, files and instructions together. Workspaces are built for teams: they give everyone the same shared sources for an ongoing piece of work.

How do I know whether Copilot really saves time?

Measure it. Time one task the usual way, then run the same task with Copilot twice and count the time for gathering, prompting, checking and editing. If it holds up twice, reuse the prompt; if the inputs repeat every week, automate it with a review step.

Copilot workshop

Bring one recurring task. Leave with a workflow that runs.

Turn the Microsoft 365 Copilot updates into real time savings. Bring a task your team does every week, such as project updates or client-meeting prep. In our Copilot agent workshop you build and test a reusable prompt or agent in your own Microsoft 365 environment. You leave with a workflow you can use right away and a simple way to check whether it saves time.
